After 55 years of living in the US of A – we are moving Down Under for a few years. It’s a chance to revisit a place I experienced in 2016 – to live in a new culture with unique values and uncrowded locations. Australia is beyond spectacular and it because it is so far away – a chance to do what we all seek in life, to reinvent ourselves. Below is my goodbye email at work to give you some context.
I am soon heading Down Under to help design a human-centered movement.
After 15 years at IDEO, I am moving to Australia in early 2018 to work alongside Opher Yom-Tov, a talented IDEO alum and the new Chief Design Officer of ANZ Bank. The brief is clear and to the point: to modernize, simplify and humanize banking for the good of all. They are undergoing significant change under a strong C-suite of women leaders, most of them Claudia Kotchka protéges. This is a perfect opportunity for me to continue my growth beyond IDEO by going client-side to scale design thinking for 45,000 employees.
More to the point, I am looking forward to applying all that I have learned from each of you. My genuine thanks for everything you have shared and taught me along the way. It is incredibly empowering as I head off.
